Why choose Boucherville?

Boucherville is on the South Shore, along the St. Lawrence, between Longueuil and Varennes. Pierre Boucher founded it in 1667, which makes it one of the oldest towns in Québec. It is part of the Longueuil agglomeration and had 41,743 residents in 2021.

People come for nature: the islands in the river are a national park. They also come for the pace: residential streets, local parks and bike paths. Highway 20 and Route 132 run along the town, and the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine bridge-tunnel leads to the east end of Montréal.

On safety, Boucherville had the lowest crime rate in the Longueuil agglomeration in 2015, according to Le Courrier du Sud. For 2025, the SPAL reports crime down 7% across the agglomeration, its lowest level in ten years.

Boucherville, Montréal, Longueuil or Laval?

• Compared with Montréal: more green space and quieter streets. In exchange, no metro and a longer run downtown.
• Compared with Longueuil: Longueuil has a metro station. Boucherville is more residential and closer to the islands.
• Compared with Laval: it depends on where you work. For the east end of Montréal, the bridge-tunnel makes Boucherville practical. For the north of the island, Laval will be simpler.

Boucherville neighbourhoods for renters

Boucherville is not a big city. Its areas differ mostly by age and by distance from the river.

Vieux-Boucherville. The historic core, on the river, and a protected heritage site. Église Sainte-Famille, built in 1801, stands at its centre. People go there for a Sunday walk and, in summer, the shuttle boat to the islands.

Harmonie. An area built from the late 1990s, between boulevards de Mortagne, de Montarville, de Montbrun and de Normandie. Mostly houses and condos, with local parks and bike paths. Families have École Les Trois-Saisons, a French primary school.

Around our buildings.

• 453 rue Darontal. A quiet, practical area, a 6-minute walk from Parc Bois-de-Brouage and a short drive from the river. Route 132 is close by.
• 1080-1100 boulevard de Montarville. Three civic numbers on boulevard de Montarville, with route 86 at the door. Promenades Montarville is a 9-minute walk.

At 453 rue Darontal you do not even open a Hydro-Québec account: no heating bill in January, no surprise in February.

Getting to Montréal from Boucherville

Most people make the trip by car or by bus. There is no metro in Boucherville.

By car. Allow about 22 km and around twenty minutes off-peak to downtown. For the east end of Montréal, take the Louis-Hippolyte-La Fontaine bridge-tunnel. For downtown, the Jacques-Cartier or Samuel-De Champlain bridge. At rush hour, allow a good deal more.

By bus. The RTL runs three direct links to Montréal:

• Route 461: from the De Mortagne park-and-ride to Terminus Radisson (green line metro), in a reserved lane.
• Route 61: along boulevard du Fort-Saint-Louis to Terminus Radisson.
• Route 86: from boulevard de Montarville to the Terminus Centre-ville in Montréal.

Routes 80, 82, 83 and 84 go to Terminus Longueuil, next to Longueuil–Université-de-Sherbrooke metro (yellow line). Within the town, midibus 284 is free on weekdays during the day.

By bike. A bike path runs along the river on boulevard Marie-Victorin, and the Jacques-Cartier Bridge path takes you into Montréal.

The bus at our door. On boulevard de Montarville, route 86 to downtown Montréal stops a one-minute walk away. At 453 rue Darontal, route 61 to Terminus Radisson is 4 minutes away, and the free midibus stops outside the door.

Park-and-ride. The town has three: De Montarville 1 (220 boul. de Montarville, 307 spaces), De Montarville 2 (260 boul. de Montarville, 231 spaces) and De Mortagne (opposite 1205 rue Ampère, 560 spaces).

Parks and the outdoors

Îles-de-Boucherville National Park is a group of islands in the middle of the river, run by Sépaq. In summer, people walk, cycle, canoe and kayak there. In winter, there are trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking, with equipment rental on site.

From June to September every day, then weekends until mid-October, a shuttle boat leaves from quai Yvon-Julien in Vieux-Boucherville. The crossing takes about 15 minutes. The shuttle is free for Boucherville residents, but the park itself needs a Sépaq access pass.

Winter in Boucherville

Parking and snow clearing. From 1 November to 30 April you can park on the street overnight, except during snow clearing. The town announces it every day at 5 p.m. Sign up on the Portail citoyen or install the town's app to get the notice by text or email.

Heating. In both our buildings, heating is included in the rent. At 453 rue Darontal, electricity is too: you have no Hydro-Québec bill to pay.

Outdoors. The national park stays open: cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking, with equipment rental on site.

Schools, groceries and essential services

Schools. French schools belong to the Centre de services scolaire des Patriotes. A new primary school opens in the Normandie area in September 2026. In English, the Riverside School Board runs Boucherville Elementary. A child's school depends on the exact address: check it before you sign.

Groceries and shops. Promenades Montarville, at the corner of boulevards de Montarville and de Mortagne, has a Provigo, a Canadian Tire and a Jean Coutu. Carrefour de la Rive-Sud, where Highways 20 and 30 meet, has Costco, IKEA and Super C. There is also an IGA at 141C boulevard de Mortagne.

Health. The local hospital is Hôpital Pierre-Boucher, 1333 boulevard Jacques-Cartier Est in Longueuil. Its emergency department is open 24 hours a day.

Three practical tips

1. Visit on a weekday, late in the day. You see the parking when residents come home and hear the real noise level.
2. Sort out parking when you sign. It costs extra at both our buildings. Ask for a spot straight away rather than at the first snow.
3. At 453, tell the concierge your moving date. Around 1 July, many neighbours need the elevator at once.
