The City divides the borough into four districts, from east to west: Sault-au-Récollet, Saint-Sulpice, Ahuntsic and Bordeaux-Cartierville. For a renter, the real difference is the nearest station: the orange line in the east, the REM and bus 79 in the west.

Before you compare two listings, read the line in the lease that says who pays for what. Heating, hot water and appliances weigh more on your winter budget than a small difference in rent.

Three practical tips

  1. Note the 79 stop closest to your work. The line connects the REM in the west and Henri-Bourassa metro in the east. A single bus is often enough.
  2. Sign up for snow removal alerts in November. Snow loading can happen at night, and only the orange signs count.
  3. Try the REM and the metro at rush hour. From Cartierville, Bois-Franc station takes you to Gare Centrale without going through Henri-Bourassa.
